DeeDee Lake is a seven-time published author, speaker, business coach, and lifelong connector who believes relationships are built one conversation at a time.
Military life has shaped much of DeeDee’s story. She grew up as a Navy brat, spending part of her childhood in Spain, and later married Seth, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot who served for 30 years. She’s lived in more than 50 homes around the world—which means she’s had plenty of practice making new friends, finding her way around unfamiliar places, and figuring out which box the coffee maker ended up in. 😄
Growing up in a military family and then becoming an Army wife gave DeeDee a front-row seat to the adventures and challenges of military life. Frequent moves, deployments, separations, new communities, and constant change taught her the importance of connection, resilience, grace, and making wherever you are feel like home.
DeeDee and Seth have been married for more than 40 years. They have two grown children, both adopted, and four grandchildren who know her as Nana.
Those experiences also bring authenticity to the military families, relationships, friendships, and romances woven throughout the Rules of Engagement series she co-authors with Susan M. Baganz.

DeeDee’s work has always centered around people and connection.
As a seven-time published author, she writes both fiction and nonfiction. She is also a trained public speaker and has spent more than a decade working with authors, helping them navigate the business side of becoming an author—from building relationships and discovering opportunities to growing their visibility and reaching readers.
Her own experiences as an author led to another passion: helping writers understand that writing the book is only part of the journey. Today, she coaches aspiring and published authors as they learn to approach their writing as both a calling and a business.
Faith at the Center
Faith has been the compass throughout DeeDee’s journey.
She accepted Christ as a teenager but remembers what it felt like to know Jesus without really knowing how to live out her faith. Years later, while living in Panama, Christian women came alongside her and showed her what walking with Christ looked like in everyday life.
That experience eventually helped inspire her book Next Step: You’ve Accepted Jesus. Now What? and strengthened her desire to encourage others through her writing, speaking, mentoring, and relationships.

She has been known to talk faster than an auctioneer, rearrange furniture simply because it has been in the same place too long, and strike up conversations with complete strangers.
She loves people, stories, adventures, and discovering the connections that can change the direction of someone’s life.
